••• Caedmon's Hymn •••
Audio collage based on the earliest surviving poem in an English language.
Called Old English or Anglo-Saxon, the language is rich and deeply resonant. This short prayer was dictated to monks by an illiterate 6th century shepherd who experienced increasingly frequent visions of God.
Two independent readings were adapted to fit as though performed by a duo and virtual instruments were added.
This is an attempt at re-evoking the sensation on first hearing these sonorous, haunting 1,500 year old words.
