Two long-term fascinations are merged in this latest project: building software instruments from found audio objects and reconstructing the human voice. In these short pieces I am examining ways to manipulate, respond to and build new sounds using sacred choral and vocal music from multiple Christian, Muslim and Buddhist sources. This was also an exercise in 'binaural' or three dimensional sound, simulated in the digital studio. It is a part of my preparatory work for a virtual performance of my piano concerto using 3-D projection. Listeners don wireless headsets with motion trackers attached. Optical sensors send data to the dynamically processed audio output, generating the relay of unique 3-D audio to each listener, responding to their individual movements around the projection space.
